Twitter + prepaid health insurance?

Web 2.0 Health Insurance Fund Micro Blog or something more?

Beta testing Twitter for Innovation Quest

Back in February 2008 I finally got around to creating GMHBA Twitter account.

I then pretty much did nothing until the launch of PrepaidHealthInsurance.com.au

So after a couple of weeks of Twittering what are the results?

At the moment the GMHBA Health Insurance Twitter site has about 925 followers. Now that may not seem like much, yet I believe that business benefit is yet to come...

Stay tuned!

Prepaid website to sell health insurance

Generation Y to get health insurance prepaid

This morning I took some shots of the BAYFM Cruiser. It features GMHBA signage over the top. Looks pretty cool. Then just after lunch a photographer from the Independent Newspaper came to take some photos of a GMHBA staff member in front of the Prepaid Health Insurance website.

Australia's GMHBA Health Insurance is launching prepaid health insurance via PayPal targeted at Generation Y

"GMHBA is proud to launch the concept of prepaid health insurance and Generation Y is the target," said Jonathan Crabtree, Executive Manager - Strategy and Innovation at Geelong’s own health fund, GMHBA Health Insurance.

"While our main website at www.GMHBA.com.au caters for all consumer segments, our new website at www.PrepaidHealthInsurance.com.au has been built with Gen Y singles in mind. Not only is the website green (carbon offset) people can now buy prepaid health insurance via PayPal from a health fund for the first time in Australia and possibly the world," he said.

“GMHBA is also giving away an 3G Apple iPhone to highlight the fact the prepaid health insurance site is also iPhone friendly, targeting the increasingly mobile Generation Y," said Mr Crabtree.

"In our 75th year of operation we believe value and innovation are more important than ever and at just $9.90 a week after the Federal Government rebate, we believe our fixed price prepaid hospital and extras package for Generation Y is an excellent entry level cover. We're proud to be a part of the Geelong community and the fact we're one of the more innovative health funds in Australia - if not the world," Mr Crabtree said.

CALL TO ACTION

1) Visitors to www.PrepaidHealthInsurance.com.au can enter a draw to win an 8GB 3G iPhone and/or buy prepaid health insurance via PayPal for just $9.90 a week.

ABOUT GMHBA HEALTH INSURANCE

GMHBA was established in 1927 by a group of Geelong cement workers. Their goal was to protect themselves, their families and their workmates from unexpected medical expenses by contributing to a shared insurance fund. Today the same principle continues to apply as GMHBA operates as a not-for-profit health fund covering more than 183,000 people. GMHBA has also received more top hospital cover ‘best buy’ nominations than any other health fund for the last three years.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

Q Can young couples also buy the $9.90 a week prepaid health insurance package?
A Yes, however two single covers would need to be taken out and as obstetrics is excluded to help keep the cost down, they’ll need to change to another cover at least 12 months before you're ready to start a family.

Q Will other health covers be made available prepaid via PayPal?
A Other health insurance options are planned to be made available at a later date.

Q How long will the $9.90 a week price for the prepaid health insurance package last?

A The 6 and 12 month prepaid price of the Bronze Combo has been fixed at $9.90 a week until March 2010.
